blog1We have been developing fast in the last 12 months and a part of this is this new website and blog. It is in development at the moment but we hope to update regularly with not only the work we are doing but the other fantastic bereavement, suicide prevention and mental health work going on in our fantastic city of Leeds. If you would like to know more about our first 12 months, read our First Year Report here. We also hope to be able to share this space with people who have been bereaved by suicide and wish to share poetry, writings, pictures and so on.

Suicide, we know it happens… lets talk about it.

blog1aWe held an awareness event on World Suicide Prevention Day this year and took an opportunity to reflect on our first birthday. It was wonderful to see people there and have Dr Sharon MacDonnell from Suicide Bereavement UK discuss her research, alongside other fantastic speakers. We commissioned an art installation from Inkwell Arts and it stayed as an exhibit for the following week in Leeds City Museum. We received so many compliments about the tree and the photos don’t do it justice. Hopefully it will be used at future events, keep an eye on our Upcoming Events page to see where it will be.

Suicide Audit Launch

We will be attending the new Suicide Audit Launch for Leeds on the 28th of September (as will our tree). The last Suicide Audit played a part in the development of our service and we recognise how much more can be done to support people and prevent suicides if we know more about how people in Leeds are affected. We do not know the findings of the report but hopefully they will assist us in doing the best job possible to support suicide bereaved people. We will be tweeting from the event and will update here later on in the week.
